HiMedia Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., a successful second-generation family business, was founded more than 45 years ago by Dr. G.M. Warke, who shortly thereafter brought other family members on board. His brother Vishnu Warke took over a vast majority of the sales department, as well as his wife Saroj Warke, who took over the management of the IT department. Other family members are running important departments like Peptone production. Until today the complete first generation of the family is actively working in the company, but also the second generation is already an integral part of the company.
Their biggest goal has always been – and still is – to provide the world with affordable products of the highest quality in the field of life science as well as for the healthcare sector.
HiMedia's product lines
In the past, there was a difficulty in India to get the required products in sufficient quantity or quality, either because they were not available in India or importing them proved to be difficult or even impossible. Dr. G.M. Warke was studying microbiology when he was repeatedly faced with the desperate problem of obtaining the required microbiological media. In order to complete his studies, he had to find a way to prepare these media on his own. Through this, he and his colleagues gained an incredible amount of knowledge and experience in the production of any type of peptones, animal or plant derived, as well as the production of the corresponding media.
In this way, and by serving all kinds of customers, from research institutes to NGOs and pharmaceutical companies, HiMedia Laboratories has become one of the three world leaders in the field of microbiology.
Over the years, HiMedia has introduced other product segments, in addition to microbiology, to complete its product portfolio. For about 15 years, the sectors of animal cell culture, plant cell culture, and molecular biology have been established. Today, the children of the first generation are responsible for these three departments:
- Microbiology: Dr. Rahul Warke
- Animal and Plant Tissue Culture: Dr. Vishal Warke
- Molecular Biology: Dr. Rajas Warke

HiMedia Laboratories is certified according to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485:2016, WHO GMP and is regularly inspected by the FDA. In addition, a large part of the products are marked as CE / IVD or is produced to Halal rules.
